Where can you snorkel?

The most accessible snorkeling is at the gated Mauna Lani beach club. There is a decent variety of colorful tropical fish, and turtles are often spotted. One of the best snorkeling spots on the entire island is at the Place of Refuge national park about 90 minutes to the south (past Kailua).

What restaurants do you recommend?

At the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel we recommend fur brunch, the Terrace Café (ask for the Belgian Waffle with strawberries and whipped cream). For a beautiful sunset dinner, try the Canoe House (steamed fresh fish highly recommended). At the Fairmont Orchid, Brown’s Beach House is a favorite for dinner. At The Shops at Mauna Lani (centrally located between both condos), Tommy Bahama’s is a lot fun. A more family oriented restaurant is the Café Pesto in Kawaihae (10 minutes north). At the King’s Shops at Waikoloa Beach Resort (10 minutes to the south), we recommend Roy’s and Merriman’s Market Café. There is also a food court at the King’s Shops

Where can you shop for groceries?

Currently, the closest supermarket is in Waikoloa Village (not to be confused with Waikoloa Beach Resort) about 5 miles up the hill. There is a minimart General Store at the Waikoloa Kings Shop. New markets are coming into The Shops at Mauna Lani and the new Queen Shops at Waikoloa Beach Resort. There is a small convenience store next to the Mauna Lani spa as well.

Where can you shop?

There are shops in the hotels as well as The Shops at Mauna Lani. Additional shops are found at the Waikoloa King Shops about 10 minutes south of Mauna Lani. The main shopping area is in town, Kailua-Kona, 25 miles to the south. The local K-Mart, Walmart and Costco feature a lot of local goods (foods, candies, art, music, etc.). The tourist/souvenir area is on Alii Drive in Kona-Kailua.
